I got this dipstick from ebay, but its impossible to read the fluid. Mine is still very light and sort of pink/red. I had thought of dipping it in white radiator (HOME HEAT RESISTANT) type paint, but then thought about possible contamination inside the tranny. Any surgestions.

Glasses?:)

Seriously though, it's better than the one I bought....The one I got won't go all the way in, the markers are too fat and get stuck somewhere.
Shaun Ha u still got your baby then. That one in the picture is the good one. The other they sent had a joint/screw halfway down. Manufacturing error. could have undone while in the tranny?.
It is very hard to see though. To the point of i may aswell not bothered to check it because i am still not sure if what i thought i saw was correct or not.

I've had that problem when checking tranny oil, it's hard to see.
My baby is poorly and starting to get on my tits now after 3 weeks of thinking it's fixed but next day gone off again.
At the point of doing a Basil Fawlty but with a sledge hammer instead of a branch!

The way those Berties are acting you'd think they've won the treble, Stockport has never been so busy on a Sunday night!
Apologies if you're one?;)

My apology's, I wasn't saying your name is Bertie or you live in Stockport!
City fans are known as Berties.....Bertie Magoos = bitter blues and the joke is they are not a Manchester team, most of their fans live in Stockport.
Like people say UTD fans are all from the south.

Do you work nights or something. I'm off to bed up far too late. No offence. Good luck to ya. only joke. Got a major united fan living next door, season ticket holder. Was out tickling may babe when he came home from the defeat with his grandson. Couldn't look him in the face. Stuck my head under the car. Anyway check that maff. Mine needs a new one. It won't throw a code unless its really F---ed.

Man , to think of the days in the premier leagues had Kevin Keegan go to Liverpool and
was the first to ever get a multi million contract. You two are making me feel old.

I don't know what that is in the OP's picture but here are pictures of the Mercedes trans dipstick taken by several Benzworld members.

Mike its a ebay special. But i don't want to spend silly money on an M.B part that will be used a couple of times. Thanks for the pictures. I just want some ideas on what i could do with it to make it easy to see the fluid on it?. I know someone will say bin it, but no i will not. Cost me £££. Anyone got an idea that will not put contaminant in the tranny?. If i paint the end that will do the trick, but what if the paint peels off with the heat.

Try sanding the surface to give a rough texture and the liquid may show up better. I did that to my tractor oil dipstick and I can see the oil level much better. I would not paint the end.

I included the pictures so you could compare the dimensions to yours to insure accuracy. I assume you do know that the dipstick does not go all the way in. It is inserted just until it hits bottom and several inches are still hanging out the top of the dip stick tube.

Thanks mike. I did check the measurements when i got it to make sure it was correct. The photo's cornfirm that thanks. I will try that sanding idea. When i tried it the atf was very hard to see to be fully sure. It was upthere where it should be i think. Someone has put a red dot on the tranny fill cap, so may have been changed at some time. Still clean and pinkish. but have the ususal weep on the tranny pipes. Very little leakage but over time fluid level needs to be checked correctly.
