I would like to know if the tranny from a 300e in the late '80s, early '90s would be a direct fit for an '89 300se?

If so, I could pull the tranny out of a 300e parts-only car and put it in a friend's 300se (whose tranny will not shift into the 3rd or 4th).

I know the up to 85 Gen I W126, and the later Gen II V 8's have completely different tranny suspension points and are incompatible.
Not sure about the 300SE/L (M 103) though.

Have you tried a forum search? The archive has a wealth of information.

Welcome, to take advantage of all the forum features, please re visit the 'Welcome to the Forum' tutorial sticky on top of the W126 page, as well as the two DIY stickies.
It will show how to search the forum (3 words min.), and has a link to the Russian MB site where you can run a VIN#.
Cheers

They'll fit..

WORST case would be a different tail shaft but I doubt it..

Yes, but the tailshaft from the old box' could be used!? :)
Yea, I am hoping that it'll just be that "in my way." So I guess the trannys paired with the M103 engines are pretty much the same?
