Moggers and fellow Benzophiles:

We were traveling south from Moab yesterday in heavy rain. When we got off the plateau region and into the flats near Monument Valley, we spotted a fellow stranded on the wrong side of an arroyo that was suffering a flash flood. Thankfully, he had the good sense not to attempt to cross the wash, but he DID ask us to tow him across with Thor. We respectfully declined and you can see why on Part 41: Anticline Overlook, UT to Flagstaff, AZ 20120823

At some level it might have been fun to trash his ride, but I am pretty sure that the vehicle was rented. And, there was the ever-present risk of his lighter vehicle acting as a float and towing us both down the wash. The mud in that area is clay-based and very, very slick.

But, in the end, cooler heads prevailed.

Happy mogging.

Best regards,

bc and Kathleen from Flagstaff, AZ

Hi Bill - great trip report so far.

When you were up on the Uncompahgre, you were only 20 miles or so from my place in CO. If you look back at your area map and can find Transfer Rd coming down the east side, I'm pretty much right where that road ends in the valley.

Maybe we'll see you if you ever get back to the area !
