The sensors in the wheels of my '04 S430 are dead, so I have to reset the TPMS periodically and get the warning after 10 minutes which requires a reset. I'm about due a set of tires, so my plan was to just pull the sensors out and disarm the system.

I called my dealer and was told the system cannot be disarmed. I'm not keen on the idea of paying for a new set of sensors because the system is more a nuisance than a help when it works as it should.

Is what the dealer told me correct? If not, what is the scoop on disarming the system?

If so, where is the best deal on sensors?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I am experiencing the same frustrations. Word is that Tire Rack has the set of sensors for less than $300. You need to call as they are not listed on their site.

Report back whatever you find out.

Wholesale TPMS

Just bought from this supplier. Tire Pressure Monitoring System | TPMS | TPMS Wholesalers I don't think you can buy new ones any cheaper. CL-class does not currently work on their website model selector so type in a model S500. Most 99-06 MB models take the Beru RDE004 315mhz. new brown color 1.5 model which has the longer life battery now- replaces the older light gray one. They cost $77.08 and free ship. Hope this helps you bargain hunters.

Go to an other Mercedes-Benz dealer, if you do a search, you will see that this has been recently talked about.
I have a 2004 S500, was told that all the sensor batteries were dead, I told my service writer to "disconnect/disarm the TPMS. $120.00 via the startech.

Thanks. I will call the other dealer nearby.

The service writer I talked to said "I'm talking to the shop foreman now and he says there is no way to disarm it." I have read the other threads on the subject which is why I called the dealer and asked what it would take to disarm the system.

Failing satisfaction, I will contact MBUSA directly and lodge a complaint against the dealers who are giving me bad information.

My TPMS always shows higher PSI than actual using my trusty tire pressure gauge. I put in 32/35 and the TPMS system shows 35/38. I have tried to reset it several times, no luck always shows higher PSI.

Owner manual says trust the car's TPMS data, it is more accurate.

TPMS batteries dying

The original Beru 315mhz. TPMS units have a life of approx. 6 years. You will have to replace them to maintain the system. You will find that the new units will stabilize your readout. The new Beru RDE004 (new and improved) has a battery life of 10 years. Put them in and presto!

The Wholesaler mentioned in a thread above sells the RDE004. Did you or the wholesaler make a typo, or is the RDU004 different from the RDE004?

Got the new Michelins today--left the old sensors in. My tire guy says we can pop the bead and put in the new sensors whenever.

I had my tech read the sensors and he got all sorts of confusing stuff from the OBD; it thinks there are more than four sensors. It reads one sensor as dead. And it is very confused in general.

Rde004 is the correct BERU 315mhz.

When I went to the Beru site Perfection built in , (Look for TSS install) there is download page on how to install/remove the sensors and it mentions the stem for the sensor is the RDU# and have 4 sizes. Valve stem RDU 001 (43mm long) is what size we use for most MB rims.

Taking out the sensors may cause some funky errors like they did me. I had a flat at upwards of 100mph and shreaded the tire. Popped in a spare and left the one wheel home in the garage for a week while I ordered a replacement tire. During this week I would get the usual BAS and pre safe inactive error which caused my speedo to not work and my suspension to stiffen up. My new tire arrived from tire rack and all those errors went away. Dont take the sensors off.

Order a new set of wheels from tire rack and you'll get the option to add TPMS sensors. Once you add the sensors just delete the wheels and pay for sensors.

The wholesaler that we have been mentioning in this thread is $22 a corner cheaper than Tire Rack and shipping is included in their price. I don't know about you guys, but an extra c-note in my pocket is worth considering.

TPMS sensors are # RDE 004 315mhz

Sorry, I put down the wrong #. We in the USA take the new BERU (original equipt. mfg.) RDE 004 (315 mhz) from 2000 to 2006 and maybe a few scattered models into 07, after 2006 MB used the Schrader brand and different frequency. The Mercedes benz Valve # RDV 001 43mm long is used with the Beru 004 sensor. I an going to say this one time: If you are getting weird readings on the car tire pressure monitor system- IT IS 99% that the batteries are going bad on the sensors, 5-6 year life on the original units. New and improved RDE 004 have a 10 year life. Stop complaining and replace the friggen sensors, or kill the system if you don't need it or care about it. I just changed my rims and tires and put new valves and sensors on the rims. after a few miles of driving (about 8 miles) I got a red tire sensor signal. From the dash I hit the reset and then told the control module to use the TPMS (reset-YES) all the sensors registered tire pressure. One tire flashed low and I reset again and the system is 100%. That's my story!

Harley03Joe- I ordered on the web, and called them the next day to verify and ask a question by phone. I got my units in 2 days from MI to NJ. I also brought to their attention a web site problem, which they fixed.
