Look at BF Goodrich, now owned by Michelin.
Toyo/Nitto/Dunlop/Goodyear?
It's time for summer tires. While I would love Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, I can't justify spending $1600 CDN for the set. Running Michelin Pilot Alpine's that came with car last December. Good winter tire, will set aside until November.
Been doing searches and reading reviews. Possible choices narrowed down, in no particular order:
1. Toyo T1R
2. Nitto NT 555
3. Goodyear F1 All Season (prefer summer tire, but priced well)
4. Dunlop Sport SP 9000 (OEM & nice tread, but not hearing great news)
5. Falken 452
All of my previous BMW's and MB's have only ever had Michelin tires. I don't know much about either Nitto's or Falkens, friends in the BMW and Mustang worlds suggesting these brands. I'd be interested in your reactions and feedback if anyone is running these tires or
any other tires I have not included in my list that I should consider.

Your the second person today to tell me that. I've seen there tires on Tire Rack, but I guess I shy away thinking that BF Goodrich's belong on trucks and jeeps, etc.....
I have some on my MB and they seem pretty good so far. It's too early to tell how many miles I'll get out of them.
I have been running the Goodyear Eagle F1 all-season for about 10k miles so far. It is a good dry tire and great wet tire. Noise and wear are non-issues at this point.
Why not Yokohama? I've been running them for years on my BMWs. They handle great in the dry and wet (but not a snow tire), run very quiet, good tread life and reasonably priced.

Had Michelin Pilots originally - GREAT tire EXPENSIVE tire. Replaced with Goodyear F1's good looking tirel - but VERY loud and very "blocky" handling. Replaced early because of the noise, and put Falken Fk452's on - happy customer now. Good wear so far, nice look, and good price, also - very little noise.
PS - I have Generals on my M3 - very nice tires as well.

I had Falkens and they came apart on me (couldn't handle my driving style?) I have had Pirelli PZero Neros and they have been great, quite and really good grip. I run the Michellin pilot pro's on the wife's car and they are great too.
One tire that I have recently researched is the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. Priced very well and seems to get good reviews. Might take the chance on it.

Hi Rob, I had Michelin Pilots when I first bought the car but for $ A 950 a piece I thought there has to be another solution. So I bought TOYO Proxes 1TR for the rear and later for the front, the tyres performed well, not much noise but the rear only lasted 20K .Yesterday I got talked into a rear set of Uniroyals Rainsport 1 for $ A 260 a unit and they seem fine but of course I do not know how long they last, (longer than Toyos) according to the (mailnly) Toyo dealer.It's time for summer tires. OK I'm in the market for new tires as well. I have been running Toyo T1R for 1.5 years and will not buy them again due to wear and product coming apart in half-life. When I first ran them great tires for handling and ride with very low sound in car. The E55 eats these tires up in the rear (like it does most soft tires) but what happened this month makes me think about going with another brand. First my RR tire wore very odd on one side maybe it was the rear alignment off until I found the same thing on my front FR tire which looks like a belt inside the tire came apart at high speed. The rears have been changed once, and I was able to keep the fronts due to tread life on them. The front tires still have maybe 5,000 to 7,000 miles left except for the problem tire, which just happened.
I was thinking of Nitto NT555 but in Miami you need good rain tires in the summer so they are out, but now I may try the INVO I have talked to a few Viper guys that are running them and they love them. But I think the same company owns Toyo and Nitto? I think Toyo has a problem with high heat like Pirelli did back in the 90’s. I see a lot of high-end tuners putting Nitto’s on their cars so maybe these are better then the Toyo brand or Nitto is giving great deals to these shops (Renntech, Steeda, etc)? I have not liked the Goodyear F1 tires, but the Corvette guys seem to dig them. I have not used them on my Mercedes. I did run the Falkens on my S class but the car was to heavy and they burned up fast.
So which tire? The Nitto INVO looks to be a good choice for me due to being low sound, great in wet and dry, but are rated at 260 very soft tire. These may not last on our E55’s. Interesting your comments re Toyo Proxes 1TR. When I repalced my rears yesterday after only 20K kms the passenger side had the same problem, the side was chewed out. I had the tyre dealer do a wheel alignment and he reckons it was out a fair bit but I think they always say that. I am wary of Falken and other exotic stuff thats why I tought the Uniroyals Rainsport1( made in Germany by Continental) might be the go and at that price it is not so important. They are no noisier than the Toyos. Maybe this helps.

falken 452s are nice, got a brand new set on my clk430, excellent in dry weather 9/10, 8/10 in wet. The tires i had on previously were Dunlop sp fm901s i would say those were 8.5/10 dry, 4/10 wet (could not give me traction at all in light rain with Wet mode) Would get raped by corollas in acceleration. Then comparing the falkens to P zero neros, they were 9.5/10 dry, 8/10 wet. But the Falkens being much cheaper, i would probably not buy p zeros ever again.
I've had my Sumitomo HTR Z III's for 15K and would recommend them highly. For the price they are hard to beat. Are they as good as Michelin? No way but at half the price they are 3/4 as good.
Wow, I completely forgot about this post until seeing it tonight. I apologize that I wanted to post my final choice, and bear with me, I'm into week 14 of a labour strike at work, which started shortly after I posted this topic. Being at the management level, I've been ordered to work through this and haven't had much time to spend with the car. I save that for weekends. More later.
I went with the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta based on the price, reviews and research I pulled on these tires. My second choice would have been the Toyo T1R's. I've never owned Vredestein's and figured why not go for it.
I've only combined approximately 800 kms on the tire, which isn't much, but so far so good. Grip is fair and sticky in dry conditions and they seem quiet for now. Unfortunately, I haven't had too much wet weather to deal with. If you know the tire tread, they have a large channel towards the inside of the tire to disperse water away. Appearance wise, they look wicked! The rears more so. They were actually a conversation starter with two striking staff one day when I was forced to use the 55 to cross the picket line. They were car guys, but going through that line once with the Merc was enough. Took alot of heat.
One thing I must say, this car is great stress relief. I usually take it for a good boot on Friday nights after the crazy work week to unwind. I still love watching the reactions of drivers of what appear to be more aggressive cars when we pull up to the next stop light after you unleash the 55 on them. That's priceless.

I was right there with you on the Goodyear F1 GSD3's. I couldn't wait to get rid of those. Bredgestone RE050's are awesome. I can't say that I would recommend any Nitto tires due to a bad experience and I don't have any experience with Toyo's so I can't recommend those either.
