Not to argue but my dealer had a lot of money invested in a flat bed wrecker. Now they have a huge pickup truck that pulls a 2 car trailer behind it.

The whole point of this Nightmare...

Let ANYBODY Tow your Mercedes, without your presence,at It's Peril.

1.If they don't have a Flatbed/Rollback(AND know what their doing),Run them Off.
2. See 1. Above.
3. See 1. Above.

4.MOST IMPORTANT,Follow them to the "Drop Off" point, watch and make sure
they don't damage it at that end!

Good thread and a valid point, I have seen some disasters with tow trucks, we usually send a tech with the truck to make sure the tow truck driver does not mess up, but not all workshops will do this.

To be fair to the tow truck community, they can not know all the tricks will all cars, TMI in my opinion, so I agree the owner should be present or a tech to ensure it is loaded and unloaded correctly.

I know it is different at different locations, but on West Coast I haven't seen freeway towing pulling a vehicle for long time. Everybody is using rollbacks.
Few months ago I had my truck differential blowing in Reno, NV. At midnight cops call towing and they show with big rollback. My truck with the load on it was 17,000lb.
Not a problem for big rollback.

Here we can request a flatbed, maybe these are the same as a rollback? In any event AAA will pay for either one.
Correct me if I am wrong but the flatbed simply tilts down so a car can be towed onboard, but a rollback lifts the bed to floor level, so even a lambo can be moved on without any damage caused by the flat bed style incline.

That sounds logical Eric so thanks for the explanation. So what I meant was we can request a flatbed which is what I have done. I don't know if we can request a rollback or if anyone nearby has one.

From the link in the OP's post:

s class you need to turn the little chrome ring under nob counter clockwise and then pull knob up and off, then grab the shifter stick pull back while lightly tapping down on the shaft with a hammer and it will slide into neutral. Ive towed many of mercedes and you can get 95% of them into neutral with out a key but they all are diffirent and as for the GL models they do need the hub. Also if you get one thats not reading the key and it is push button start you can pop the push button out and there is a place to put the key in and turn.
Wouldn't you love to have them hammering on the gear shift? Lovely. Might as well just give the American Tourister apes access to your car.

I do not know about your location but in China rollbacks are normally used for the very low slung sports cars, most benz can be transported on a flatbed platform, the only problem is the drivers not understanding the special needs of such cars, especially when they are 4 matic or worse stuck in park.

Actually it does work but I do not like to see it posted in public for members to see:eek:

I see and that makes sense. I shouldn't even be commenting since:

1) I misunderstood the OP's purpose for starting this thread.

2) I have never had the MB towed; only a couple of "lesser" cars.

1. Either to promote a towing company which he fails to mention, I am being sarcastic, so ya know;)

2. We have them towed in all day, part of the job. Just because you are the lucky one does not mean someone is not so lucky.
