My 2004 SL55 is going to be totaled by the insurance company - During hurricane Harvey it was parked inside our garage however a direct hit by a tornado destroyed the garage and the trunk lid folded over on to of the roof see attached pictures.

What should be the right amount for the pay off the adjuster said the car was in good condition

Any tips to deal with this are appreciated.

PS The same goes for my 2006 S55

I am so sorry to hear about that and you have my deepest sympathies and strongest prayers that you and your neighbors recover from the storm damage!

My guess is the "right" amount will be several thousand dollars less than what they will offer. Insurance never seems to pay what it will actually take to replace the car. The usually offer you wholesale "book" value. You might want to do some research (eBay, Cargurus, Autotrader, etc.) to see what the same car goes for on the retail marker and try to bargain.

As I said in your other thread , the insurer will often allow you to buy back the cars cheaply as salvage

If they drive and run still without water damage I Am
Interested in buying the salvage

Insurance has offered $16.5 minus deductible They only had a comparison to one SL55 and than 6 SL500 cars so I'm now arguing with them to correct this I believe it should be around $20K for a 2004 with 92k mls I had just replaced the seats and door panels from a car with 25k miles and all new tires.

They did not want to do a buy back they did offer a buy back for my S55.

They said it will take 48 hours to review my protest.

Yes the 928 is mine also - I'm talking with some Rennlist friends to by all the 928 stuff I have on hand.

I'm thinking about buying back my damaged S55 AMG and look for another SL55 AMG after the insurance settlement is finalized.

Herman,

I heard of your loss shortly after Harvey left town - so sorry to hear of it. I also heard you and Barbara were safely out of the way, so was relieved by that. I can only imagine all the issues you are having to deal with - emotional and insurance etc. Hang in there, and I hope you come out all right. Hope we'll be able to see you and Barbara again soon.

Gary
