I notice when I cycle the top down on my SLK the process completes with the control switch light turning off and then IMMEDIATELY the side windows wanting to come up. Being of the mentality that riding around in a convertable with the windows up is worthy of an ass-beating, I would like to rig up my roof system so the control switch on the center console cycles the roof ONLY, not the side windows. Well, it'd be nice if I could retain the "double-pump" action to raise/lower both side windows, but I'd like to at least have the "roof down" cycle end when the roof is finally stored in the trunk and the trunk shut/latched, rather than continuing as it does trying to put the side windows up.

Among other things, this would save wear & tear on the window motors. It seems kind of silly to have the system put them down just to put them back up at the end of the cycle.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Anyone done it?

Erm on mine the windows dont go up !

Only if you hold the button after the roof has finished, do the windows come up.

But there is a delay of about 5 secs after the roof, before the windows move up.

i just wait for mine to start to come up and release the switch. if you notice the switch goes out before the windows come up meaning the roof process is finished.

As has been siad before, this is the normal operation of the roof/window set up. Not the best by a long shot, but that's how it works.
Haven't heard of anyon changing that, or modifying anything in the 9 years that I've been here, but it's easy to miss things on occasion.........

I don't know what the difference is, but mine is much more like SlacKer-320's. After the roof completes it's open cycle the side windows come up almost immediately, not even close to a 5 second delay, maybe 1 second but probably less. Even if I watch the switch and try to release it just as the light goes out, the windows are already up a half an inch. I usually just do a quick double tap back on the switch to lower them back to full down.

I am planning to add the SimpleRoof module. One touch operation and the cycle should stop after the roof is down. I sent Dirk an email last week, but I haven't heard back yet. Details in this thread:

Sounds great - actually his "easyroof" setup sounds more like what I'm after (very similar to the Bipes unit). I did notice on his writeup for the easyroof (which I guess isn't available yet) that it will allow you to SELECT whether you want "windows up" to be part of the roof cycle or not. 16falcon nailed it as far as his description of how my roof cycles - it goes down, the light tuns off and IMMEDIATELY the windows start coming up. This is annoying since by the time you release the button, they're already up a little bit. Obviously riding around with the windows up part-way isn't as good for the windows or track mechanisms as if they were all the way down or all the way up, so you then have to "double pump" the roof switch (more wear & tear on the switch & window motors) to retract the windows all the way down. Pretty dumb, if you ask me. Not sure if it's supposed to be this way, but there it is.

Does anyone know if the Bipes unit allows this kind of selectability with regards to the "windows up" portion of the cycle or not? For the price of that thing, I'd certainly hope so!
