Well - you lot are complaining about being too cold, well its too hot over here (Aus)! When it gets to 35 - 37 deg cel (around 100 F) and I turn on the air con and sit at around 110kph my cooling system struggles.

Normally I sit at around 82 to 85 on my temp gauge but in the heat it (and I have a/c on - otherwise its ok, up a little but not significant) it can get to 100.

I lose coolant.

I looked at my fan yesterday and noticed it had 108 written all over it. I assume it had been changed when I ran into a kangaroo.

What, if anything, will that do to my cooling?

Yeah, well, I’ll be suffering in the same heat and humidity here in a few months, Florida’s the best place to be in the winter so I’m enjoying it while I can. [:)][8D]

First I’d look into the coolant loss. Is the fan coming on? Is the rad in good shape? When was the coolant last changed? T stat? Water pump?

Sorry for all the questions but you’ve got to work through the most common causes and eliminate them otherwise you’re just chasing your tail and may end up throwing parts and money at the problem.

You could also start by mentioning which items have been changed after the accident with the kangaroo.

If the radiator was undamaged and wasn't changed, chances are since the fan was replaced it could have hit the radiator fins leading to coolant leak. Check where you are losing coolant. Does it leak just below the radiator? If so I would suspect radiator. If somewhere else, maybe it's a hose, or the expansion tank if you have one. How is the radiator cap?

Lastly, an easy fix is checking the thermostat. When it was summer here in California my temps reached 100+ deg C just like you mentioned, when I drive at that speed (110kph ~ roughly 62mph) or higher. If the thermostat is broken it could let the coolant flow in the wrong direction and not cool your engine as it is supposed to.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I hope this helps.

FWIW - Another view -what about your aniti-freeze to water ratio (in the radiator)? Our climate here is humid in summer and gets just as hot! We usaully use a 50-50 mix, and with a proper functioning cooling system it stays under 100C with the A/C on (during our summer).[:)]

First off G'day to another Melbourne boy , have a good look at your water pump , I was loosing lots of coolant last summer did comp test etc & only after pressure testing the cooling system did I find a tiny dribble coming from the water pump . This was misting because of the fan & the heat.

Thanks black280ce - I like blue better.

Thanks all, I'm only losing coolant when I put the ac on and push the car a little.

The coolant comes from the radiator cap overflow pipe.

The radiator cap has 120 (I presume PSI). The viscous coupling could be sus if it was replaced with a 108 version - I guess thats my point will 108 fan and couple have any effect?

Radiator is new - I believe - after the indicent with the 'roo.

I will go throught the other bits and pieces as a matter of time.
