Possibly repainted - although, the sun is really nasty here. When a car isn't garaged, the sun and dust eat the paint and clear coat alive. Whatever the case, definitely paint issues

edit: you're right- they had to have painted/plastidipped; the cladding is black

I know this car and have lusted over it since the original owner bought it new. Tried to buy it for years but he wouldn't sell until he passed away. Worth 60k? No but if you want the best and original then yes. I'm guessing the dealer got it for around $25k. If I remember we had talked about a price 15 years ago

I would think it is worth $60k easy except that it has languished on the market. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay and no one is shelling out for this example. Sad.

I think that’s the first w126 I’ve ever seen with no sunroof.

I wonder if it’s really a 280s, or maybe a 280se.
I bet it's SE, I don't see a carb in there.
No sunroof is not uncommon in Europe, this is Euro model. A friend of mine has 500sel without sunroof, but the dummy switch is there.

I bought a 1980 280S about 2001. Very early 126 body. Drove it a couple months before cutting it up for parts. Still have the body shell, including the non-sunroof top. The car in the craigslist ad is a 280S, not SE, IMO. That massive air cleaner on the driver's side of the engine looks just like the one on my 1980. It covers a 4 barrel carburetor that always ran like crap and got less than 10 MPG.

Poor thing. Obviously not gonna sell at that price. Timing chain slipped perhaps. Stuck valves....

It was briefly on CL for only $2,000.00 so Bob and I don’t know whether the car was flipped or the original owner accidentally listed it with a zero missing.

Besides the stripe, this is how a c107 should look. Big US bumpers killed them, just like the w116. So sad.

A pre-Mercedes factory era AMG is a truly unique car; no two vehicles are the same. The early AMG cars primarily received optical modifications; performance upgrades gained popularity in the 1980's.
Really unique, maybe the only one made with a post merger ////AMG badge on the trunk,:wink:wink
