Hey there!:)

I am moving to Miami from NY and the tires that came with my CLK 350 (Continental Contac PRO) are so/so. I'd like to get some referrals for some tires with a longer life span as I'd like to change all of them for Miami. I don't drive like a maniac or cut corners like a racer so I just need good tires that last.

Front: 225/45/17
Rear: 245/40/17

Any suggestions?

S.A.T, thanks for the reply I am still in  from watching how to drive RWD video that you linked. Good stuff.

Now in regards to the tires...interestingly enough I was looking into some Hankook and Falkens which were recommended to me. I do like Falkens as I have driven with them before on another vehicle. Will look into Goodyears and Ventus as well, thanks!

The Continentals are good tires. You might want to look at, some Goodyears, Hankook Ventus, Falkens

Hey MKA59,

How long did you have your for? How many miles?

For me perhaps I am missing something here, but I couldn't stand that my car would slip in the rain...you the hazard light would come on when the ground was kind of wet and I would be on a turn or at a light and begin to pull off. I am like grip you fat boys, GRIP!

I always had good tire pressure (always checked). But then again, maybe they are just perfect for Miami streets since al they have is warm/hot weather with the rain n the side.

What is your experience with the rain and the Continental Contact Pro's? If you ever had to deal with them in snow then I assume it wasn't a good experience (in all it's years my car has only been in the snow twice and that was not my intention ----- bad experience :().

I Had no issues. What was your dislike?M

I still haven't made my decision and April will be here soon, I am still going back and forth between Goodyears, Hankook Ventus, Falkens. I have had experience with Falkens and I did like them. I don't want to "slip" in the rain. Other's that I know who have the stocked Contac Pro's on their Mercedes have 4 matic, so perhaps they don't feel what I feel with RWD. Tires with traction galore is the primary goal.

So far I have come to these:

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110
Falken ZIEX ZE-912
Falken Azenis RT-615 (Am I pushing it with these?:p)

sometimes when I search for my tires size which is [225/45-17 (Front)
245/40-17 (Rear) ] I see "optional sizes" that say:

Plus One
225/40-18 Front)
255/35-18 (Rear)
Matching Sets
(Front & Rear)

I can only guess this would be if I changed my wheel size which I don't plan on doing...is that what that plus one means? Because you can only put on your wheels a tire fits your wheel...right?

I anytime. Did you get the ventus or you ended up getting something else

The Goodyear's went nearly 28k. I had them rotated twice which is quite a deal with a staggered setup and directional treads. I ran 35psi fronts and a pound or two more at the rear.
I am sure they have their limitations, but I am not that hard on my stuff. They were really decent in the rain compare to the oem conti CP's mentioned above and much less floatie if that's a word. Conti = no snow. They are strictly a summer tire. Not good where I live. Mike

You rotated your stagg's? How dude?

28K is pretty good...yep pretty good.

In search for fresh new tires for the CLK when it's moved to Miami's climate...I don't want my car busting it's a#$ trying to pull off at the red light in the rain or when turning a corner...it freaks the other drivers out like I am loosing control or something! Traction and thread life for a chill driver :)

Each tire and wheel has to be broke down in order to reverse the tread direction when swapping from left side to right side. Mike

I thought about doing that and asked to have it done and I was told switching tires to the opposite side which would therefore make my tires "drive" in the opposite direction. Makes sense. Is there a specific name for this type of staggered rotation?

No it does make much sense. Plenty of people do this to get the extra life out of the shoes. If alignment is good there shouldn't be any issues. I'm sure you were told this by the sales guys at the local tire store. Mike

Had a typo in my last response...but they told me "it wouldn't make sense" I assume they just want you to keep buying tires. But I will definitely take that into consideration and start rotating my stagg's. Thanks Mka59.
