I have a 1969 280SE coupe that originally had 185 X14 tires. What is a good replacement size for this car that will provide a soft and stable?

205/70-14

W111 (especially the low-grill) is a really beautiful car, and I think it looks best in original hubcaps, or possible the "bundt cake" alloys, which are actually 70´s style, but still I believe look very good on this car.

If you want to keep the original (6x14 ET30) wheels, I think that 205/70-14 would be a good choice.

Bundt cake alloys are available in 6x14 and 6,5x14, both would fit 205/70-14, but if I had the choice I would go for 6,5". There are lots of them for sale, and they are not expensive. Here is a 3,5 convertible with 14" bundts:

Even nicer with wite-wall tires I think, but I coud not find such picture.

Also available, but hard to find, are 15 inch Bundt cake. Most common (but still very rare) is I think is ATS 7 x 15 ET25 (I have a set for sale, but I live in Europe...). I think they´d look greate on a W111! With these wheels you could fit 205/65-15 or even 225/60-15.

Here is a W111 with 235/40 on 8x18 wheels! Personally I don´t like it, and they will for sure not give a "soft ride".
