I just recieved my new old Lorinser wheels ( New for me, older models that fit these cars) and the wheels size is 8J x 16. the wheels measure 8.5 inches outer bead to outer bead and 8 inches across interior to interior. Is 245 to big for this wheel? (rear only of course) I'm planning to run 225 up front.

( I of course ordered these before my car decided to have its mystery coolant problem)

245 is too big. 225/ 50 /16 or 225/ 55/ 16 would be the size for those wheels. If you go with an over-sized tyre, the sidewall rigidity would be an issue.

Everyone always says 245 is too big, but I don't understand why. If you look up the specs for a 245/50-16 tire, they all say an 8" measured rim width (and some say 7.5"). 245 works in the back but will risk rubbing at the front without rolling.
