In the early production (1998) of the CLK in Europe, an optional 'European Sport' option offered 205/55-16's on the front and 225/50-16's on the rear...
I'm considering switching to a 225/50 for a wider 'meatier' look and gaining 20mm more tread width for a little more cornering capability. Since the sidewall height and overall diameter will be practically identical to the 225/50 vs. 205/55...
My question is, is it worth it to have the narrower (205/55) on the front? What purpose is this - does this help preserve more steering feel as opposed to using the 225/50 on all 4 corners?
Again, I'm staying with the 16' wheels, as the 17' and 40/45 series tires make for lousy ride comfort on San Francisco's streets. I tried out a CLK430 and it was not a good combo to live with.
