Luke or anyone:
What should be the tire pressure on 245-45-18 tires? The car is a 96 S320V. The gas lid tells pressure, but is for the factory tires.

Some other guys in other forums are also interested to know.

Thanks

the air inside of a tire is what holds a car up so, the first thing to consider is what MB recommends ... on your car I beleive MB recommends 28psi front and rear .... but, when you plus size your car that would only be a starting point because it will not offer much wheel protection .... I typically recommend 3psi additional pressure per inch so in your case that would be 34psi but, you could go up even more if you like ... remember the pressure listed on the placard on your car is only a recommendation from MB which is designed to meet the average drivers requirements of ride quality and moderate performance and more pressure will improve the steering response but, decrease ride quality

here is a link to the air pressure tech section of our web-site which can give you more info if needed

another way to check for proper pressure is in a dry parking lot, take a piece of chalk and mark a line across the tire tread. drive straight for about a hundred feet or so. observe where the chalk is worn off of the tire. for example if its worn in the middle then your tires are over-inflated, and adjust air pressure accordingly. the best way to do this is to put about 40psi in your tires that way all you have to do is release air instead of having to worry about airing up the tire.
