Hi

I am trying to find out what type of unimog this tipper piston came from. We bought it from Atkinson Vos. We tolled them the chasse and other numbers for our 406 (1970) but this is not even close to right. We found a used gimble that fit our mog but the piston wont fit (the piston is to wide for the gimble)

I wont to find out what it came off so it can be sold when the correct one is found.

Looks just like the one on this U 1500AG.

It should work on any big(U 1500 and up) UNIMOG.

I don't think you'll have any problems selling it as long as Atkinson didn't rip you off.

Thanks that is definitely the right gimble
One thing is that the piston I have is a 5 stage and in the pic you posted the fist stage of that piston looks longer that the fist stage on the one I've got. The one I have extends 30.5" from its original length (that is full closed = 0")
Is the one in the pic you posted a 4 or 5 stage?

It is a four stage. Maybe the five stage is used on the long bed SBU's? I never really paid that much attention to it.

Hey 406man, I am looking to buy a piston from atkinson right now. I'm glad I saw your post. Was it advertised as "new" "unused"? They told me it will fit a 406 or 416. They want abould $1200usd. What year is your 406? Also what is the part number of the piston and the gimble? How much were you sold yours for? Thanks -James

My mog is a 1970 406
The tipper piston was used and at the time I think it was $850usd. For a new one $1200usd is about right. The one in the pic's I now beleave is from a U1650. Atkinson has the right ones there for the 406/416 (I even looked at one) but sum how sent me the wrong one! Currently I am exchanging it for a new one through AC price ( http://www.unimogs-acprice.co.uk/ ), they have been very useful with all sorts of parts requests. Sorry but I don't know the part number.
If you like try offroad imports (in RI) ( http://www.offroad-imports.com/ ) the can get used pistons for $750 - $900
