Actually, unless the chain is stretched or worn, you don't change the chain, but more likely replace the tensioner and chain rails. A sign of a worn tensioner is, on startup, you'll hear a chain rattle for a few seconds until the oil pressure builds up.
If you're going to change the tensioner, rails and/or replace the chain, consider doing all the necessary front end work since your radiator, chassis support, etc. will be moved out of the way. With the front timing cover off, it will be the best time to put in a new oil pump, have the thermostat tested and have the hoses redone.
