Personally I would not take off the cam to do a timing chain job. There is always the risk of pulling the threads on the heads for the cam tower bolts and then you have a mess. The timing chain jobis pretty straight forward, just take your time.

I was under the impression that iwis were the original chain manufacturers for Mercedes. but when i got my chain from our mercedes dealer who said it came from germany it has jws on the links,so is the iwis a knock off?

How much is max allowable timing offset? I was putting things back together after changing tensioner and guiding rails. Noticed that when I turn the engine so that right side cam timing mark aligns crank shaft timing is about 8 deg past TDC. Is that a sign of too worn chain?
