Which tool? The one to separate links, to install a link, or to guide the chain into the engine?

When I did my chain I surgically wrapped everything and left the top of the cam sprocket open and ground off the crimped end of the link. Then I punched it out after it was flat to the link with a center punch. Vacuumed the area clean and installed the new chain with a crimped link. I didn't use a crimping tool but used a heavy iron ingot held on the backside and used a punch to roll the sides of the link until it matched the rest of the links. The clips scare me a little. A battlefield repair tactic at it's best :)
