The timing chain on my 2001 SLK230 (124K miles) starts rattling and I want to repack/replace the timing chain tensioner first. Not the same as w202 C230 model (saw a video on Youtub), the SLK has supercharger that is directly mounted infront of the timing chain tensioner (must remove the supercharge to get to timing chain tensioner). Does anyone have procedures/WIS to remove the supercharger? I don't want to crew it up.

Thanks,

Hi there
Attached a PDF (I hope, new printer) which should help you. Let me know if you need anymore help as have just removed one myself.

Thanks tonyee & NETDVN I just pulled the head (blown head gasket) and was wondering how to get at the chain tensioner behind the supercharger - your pics will help.

Looking for torque specs for the head bolts - 10 long - 4 short - and the sequence

Thanks Ray

Hi Ray
Below are the tightening sequence and the torque settings for the cylinder head. If you have the head off I would recommend you replacing the crankcase breather hose as it becomes brittle and is hard to get to when the cylinder head is in place. Text Font Electronic instrument Design Electronics

Thanks Tony,
Your diagram and spec sheet are just what I was looking for. Does your manual show the torque and the sequence for the four shorter head bolts shown a (A) on your sequence diagram? Will take your advice and replace the hose while I have the head off.
Appreciate all your effort & help,
Ray

NETDVN,
I just removed the supercharger on my SLK230 using Toynee,s picture. Quick and Easy!
I assume that you have removed all the air hoses and air filter housing equipment from the passenger side of the engine
1. Remove coolant tank (2 bolts) and hoses from top driver side radiator. Move to side.
2. Remove wiring connector from driver side of fan shroud - just below where coolant tank was. Undo the two clips on top of the shroud/radiator and pull up on shroud to remove it and a cross hose at the bottom that has an open clip.
3. With a ratchet and socket 7 or 8 mm loosen the belt tensioner and remove the belt, being careful not to turn the crankshaft. You should have it marked at the correct BTC marks. I moved mine but just put it back on the marks after removing the belt.
4. Loosen clamp and pull inlet hose loose from the forward supercharger inlet.
5. Remove the four bolts from the top half of the inlet assembly and the small nut & bolt that connects it to the air tube assembly that is connected to the block. Loosen air tube nut at block so that it can be pulled out.
6. Remove air tube assembly and top part of supercharger taking care not to drop anything into the supercharger. I taped over the opening to be sure.
7. Completely loosen the four bolts depicted in Tony's pictures and the supercharger should be loose. I was only able to remove the top two and the rear bottom one by turning the supercharger and moving it forward and backward bit. The water pump housing interferes with it but I was finally able to position it forward enough to remove the chain tensioner. Bingo!
