i wanted to double check on re-installation before i put it all back together tonight. when i pulled the head, all i took from the tensioner was th hex plug and spring

and guide pin, so it looks like this...

do i still need to remove the whole assembly if the whole chain hasnt come off or jumped teeth? i dont really wanna stretch or break it on startup. would i be able to feel that when i cycle the engine by hand a couple times?

i have the chain secured to the cam sprocket with a few cable ties so im positive that it hasnt moved.

By posting this thread you already know you need to remove AND reset the tensioner.

Yep, its mandatory unless you want to risk the engine. Its not hard to do -- 5-10mins tops if your slow.

as far as resetting the tensioner. .. that would be where the 30Nm comes into play?

No, the tensioner is automatic. Torque is for 510 & 512, 30nm & 50nm
