It’s time to part way from my CLK after owner it over 13 years (my 1st benz) with around 168k on the mileage. It time to get rid of it due to a rod knock (not a lifter). I have a GLE350 4matic on order. Should be taking delivery in within 10 days.

I learned allot from this forum and thank you all for the wild journey I had with owning a CLK.

I can understand you moving on now with a different (brand-new?) car. I've often considered a change of ride myself, but my own CLK has only 70k miles on the clock and has absolutely nothing wrong with it. A recent 300m round trip to London gave me 37 mpg on the cluster. On any visit to my MB dealership for filters etc, the current show-room models have nothing I need, and lots of things that I don't want. So I'll keep this car going.

Amusa, you will be a loss to the 209 forum with your contributions over the years and you deserve thanks for that.
I have effectively bailed out myself recently as I cannot cope with the new platform - but I do pop back in occasionally to see if there is any improvement.
Good luck with the new ride.

Thanks for the info amusa and sorry to hear about your troubles - is CLK the 350 engine? I assume the cost of repair defeats the purpose?
It was the 5.0L V8 M113. There was no point on repairing it and it was time to jump into a family SUV.

I'm sorry to hear that you are giving up the CLK, but the new GLE's are awesome cars. Enjoy!

Same here. I'm unimpressed as hell with the new format. I've gone over to the dark side, it is easier to just ignore some of the shall we say "less mature" posts there than to fight with this new software.

One of my biggest complaints is that now each model has its own "silo". M-B uses a lot of the same parts across their entire model line, and different models will often have the same problems. The way it is now, each group has to solve problem X by themselves, not knowing that it was already solved months or years ago by the owners of a different model.

The usefulness of this site has taken a major hit. I will stop in from time to time, but I find it is less and less rewarding. That's a damn shame, because we have some real talent here, some tremendously helpful and knowledgeable people, but the "new improved" software makes them inaccessible.

I had a similar situation some years back with crappy software. I was consistently buying about $800 to $1,000 a month in various supplies from Grainger. They went to online only for their catalog, and it was useless unless you knew EXACTLY what THEY called the item you were looking for. If you didn't know, you'd never find it. I went to the local store and said "I need this item, I don't know what your catalog calls it but here's a description."

Asshole behind the counter says "Well if you don't know what it is called, maybe you shouldn't be shopping here."

I took his advice and I have not been back to Grainger in well over 20 years, and I have spent my $10K+/- a year for various supplies someplace (any place) else. They've gone back to a printed catalog, but I STILL won't ever shop there. Screw 'em, and their CC### Cylindrical Isolators as well.

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

The GLE 350 4matic did not happen because I pull the trigger on a fully loaded GLE 400 4matic instead yesterday and the CLK 500 is gone due to the trade in that they offer and I could not refuse.
