Hi Community,
My dream car was a 2015 GLK250, diesel. I wanted this Mercedes so bad, I found it online, and the next day, took a train from CT to VA, purchased the car, and drive it home. I've had it 3 years now, and still love the vehicle, but don't know if I can handle anymore exhaust/DFP (diesel particulate filter) issues.
The CEL has been popping up over the last 15k miles. Code P2002, over and over. I've tried the "cleaning system" with cleaner/purge, directly onto the filter. I've tried the fuel tank add ins. These have worked, but for only about 7k miles or so. I keep my car maintained to the strictest measures. But I can't seem to figure out how to handle the DPF issue. I have been avoiding going to the dealer, only to find out they want to replace everything in the system at thousands of dollars.
The car only has 69k miles, and I've been dealing with this for about 15k miles now. I do not understand how these issues can be happening on such a low mileage vehicle. I love this car. It has EVERY feature except the pushbutton start. The "park assist" self parking feature has been my friend's favorite feature when we go out, cause this car can find an impossible spot and slip right in! It's really an amazing vehicle.
But I've read several experiences of people trying to figure this out. Going from dealer to dealer, getting different stories, because the dealers can't even figure out how to fix the filter error. This sucks, cause the vehicle is out of its warranty, and I cannot find any exceptions to the exhaust system with extended coverage. I've read that CANADA is luck enough to have an extension on the exhaust/DPF coverage, but not the USA.
I do love my German cars, and I really love my diesels. (TDI before this). But with the world changing, diesel becoming more scarce in the market, I don't know if the exhaust issue is worth it anymore for me. My next vehicle is gonna be a Tesla, but I thought that would be way off in my future. I've always had diesels, and one 100% electric vehicle, which was crazy fun to drive. My move back to electric may be coming sooner than I anticipated, if I can't get this DPF issue resolved. Any suggestions, without having to spend thousands at a dealership?
Thanks in advance - Pete
