One of Nobby's recent responses about likes and dislikes of certain cars triggered this post. Time goes by, and one may rethink what is interesting or not, hence this post.

I was watching Barrett-Jackson last weekend, and one car that caught my eye was an immaculate 1953 Packard Carribean convertible. I told my wife today that if our fortunes were to suddenly radically improve, I'd be shopping for one!

In a money-is-no-object alternate universe, my list of cars I'd own is long:

Maserati Quattro Porte
Lotus Esprit
Bentley GT Continental Convertible
2009 MB S600
2009 MB SL65
1958 Ford Fairlane Skyliner Convertible
1958 300SL Gullwing
1958 300SL Convertible
1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible
1959 Chevy Impala Convertible
1973 Chevy Caprice Convertible
Tesla Sport Coupe
1968 280SE Cabriolet

The list goes on, these are just the ones off the top of my head.

I'll be adding more as they come to me. I know it's not a '59, but I used to own a '61 Cadillac series 62 Convertible. It had the smoothest ohv V8 I've ever seen. You could set a glass of water on the air cleaner while running and not see a ripple.

At the car show I went to today, there was a 1962 T bird with the convertible and rear tonue cover option. One of only 17 made 6 remaining. This is the car that was used in the movie Fluber with Robin Williams.

Well, I am still partial to the W113 series MB and my modern dream would be a Saturn Sky.

I got to drive a 289 Cobra one time back in the early '80s. It was a beast, and I cannot imagine what a handful that 427 iteration would be...

I have to ask.

What could possibly be the impetus for the inclusion of this fine example of a veritable land yacht on your list.......

Lotus Esprit There is a ruff one here in town that is for sale pretty cheap. And, it at the local Mercedes repair shop, owned by the mechanic there. I looked it over and quizzed him about the problems. Bad shifter cable. I think he wanted about 5K for it.

Because it's a land yacht. One of those cars that caught my eye when I was young, and it's still back there. I'd also have a 1967 Chevy Caprice coupe with a 327 engine, turbo 400 transmission, bucket seats and center shift console, because I like the lines of the car and the opera lights on the front. It was my first car, and I abused it badly, then gave it away.

Yeah, I know you can pick them up pretty cheap. I looked for one a while ago, but never found one I had enough confidence in to buy. And I can only handle one project car at a time, I'm afraid.

One of my alltime favorites.
55-57 Corvette was always on my short list, though it wouldn't be that much fun to drive.

One of my greater regrets is not buying a '56 that I looked at in about '69. Needed work, but I believe it was $450. Of course, if I'd bought it, I'd have sold it long ago. :crybaby2:

Then there were the XK120 & XKE I had.

Damn, I'm afraid this list could get quite long.

In the spring of 1958 my parents were but a few days away from ordering a '59 Vette. Then Mom informed Dad of his impending fatherhood.

The things a father never lets a first son forget.....
