Apparently the W212 has a tilt down mirror feature on the passenger side, but M-B calls it exterior rear view mirror parking position on page 95 of my Operator's Manual. Per page 96, I interpreted it that it would only function if I "Called it up."

Since it appears to be on demand, so to speak, I set it. Now it happens every time I put the car in reverse.

Anyone using this feature or had any experience with it?

Can it be turned off? e-mailed MBUSA, but no response yet.

Really don't like tilt down mirrors as I do a lot of backing up, but never into a parking space or to parallel park. Well, maybe once every 4-5 years. Also, with the rear view camera I can see to back up fine.

Seems it places a lot of wear on the mirror motor.

Thanks.

I set mine to look down and in a little. I ve had this on other vehicles before. It gives you a better area of view when you are backing up. I don t know how but you can have that mirror not move if you wish. Just set it the same as your regular view if you can t turn it off. I m sure the motor is designed to handle tens of thousand of cycles.

Next time you put the vehicle in reverse and the mirror tilts down, adjust it so it is in the same position as your normal driving position. This will memorise it not to move when going into reverse.

Thanks guys. I "reset" it to where it matched my memory setting. Still would like to be able to neutralize it so it won't move when other memory settings are activated.

hey there ... can I get instructions on how to set this up? my dealer couldn't get it to wsork and said it wasn't supported...
It's in my operator's manual, which was printed in July 2009 and the car was built in Nov. 2009. On pages 95 and 96 with the other Memory stuff.

Switch on ignition
Press passenger mirror button on arm rest
Shift into Reverse
adjust the mirror to where you want it
Supposedly the position is now stored
OR
Switch on ignition
Press button as above
Adjust mirror
Press Memory button on door and within 3 seconds, press any one of the adjustment arrow buttons. If mirror does not move, position is stored.

My problem is the next section appears to imply that you have to place the car in reverse and push passenger mirror button for it to "tilt down." Mine was tilting every time I put it in reverse.

It is quite simple chaps, if you have your passengers mirror selected for adjustment on the door then it will go down when in reverse, but if you have the drivers mirror selected then the passengers mirror will not move when in reverse.;)

Yep thats how I read it in the manual.
I need to set mine, it just "wobbles" when I put it in reverse. Just had the car a few days and simply not got round to it.

If it simply wobbles then there is a problem.
