Tie rod ends & Ball Joints

2193 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  dannyqball_817
I just had my 99ML serviced today and they told me that my car is dangerous at the moment because my outer tie rod ends are loose. They can fix them but for a hefty price.
Also my rear lower ball joints are loose, my question is how hard is it to replace these yourself. The price for parts aren't that bad but the labor is killer. I have mechanics in my family that would be willing to help me as long as it's not too complicated of a task.
Any comments are very welcome.
Thanks

front tie rod ends are pretty easy, the hard part is unscrew it from the inner tie rod. Most of the time the nut is seized and it doesn't turn. You may end up replacing the inner tie rod as a result. Which was what I did last year, replace the whole inner and outer tie rods. Alignment will be required after you done this.
Not sure about rear ball joint, I haven't done it yet. If you have some ball joint press, it will make the job a lot easier.
