Hi all. My fiance's 97 S320 had the two rightmost gauge cluster lights out when we bought it. Recently, another one went out leaving only the one all the way to the left still working. I purchased some LEDs to replace it with but putting them in seems to have no effect. I tried changing the orientation of one of the bulbs to see if it was a polarity issue and it didn't do anything.

Anyone have thoughts on what the issue could be?

Have you tried putting an original type bulb in to see if those spots actually light up? LEDs are kind of tricky. They are voltage/amp sensitive, so you are most likely be successful if you pay attention to the specifics of LEDs. Too little volts or amps and they most likely won't even illuminate, too much and they overheat and fail shortly.

I haven't. But one of the LEDs is working fine (the leftmost one) so I doubt that would be the issue.

It would help by ruling out the "no connectivity" possibility. I had a Ford cluster once, all the sockets would illuminate LEDs but one. Drove me nuts trying to figure it out. After using DVOM, I saw it had slightly lower voltage, just enough to not illuminate what I had I guess. Wasn't worth any further investigative effort so just used an incandescent. Wasn't that noticeable to be bothersome.

Interesting. I'll get some incandescents and give it a test. Do you know off-hand what type of bulbs I need? Always a bit of a pain to search that.

Sweet. Many thanks @Grumpa . Fingers crossed incandescents do the trick.

The LED bulbs on cluster have polarity .
When you insert a Bulb & dosen't light up , pull it back out & try again by inserting it the other way around .
I had this many times & each time it was wrong polarity Inserted LED bulb . Now if i have to swap a bulb , i leave the cluster on so i know straight away if bulb is the correct way inserted .

Well, tried messing with polarity and that didn't seem to work. I'm almost wondering if these bulbs just don't sit in the holders correctly because upon taking the cluster out the left one seemed to stop working. I tried jiggling them every which way though and that didn't work either. That said, I installed fresh incandescents as suggested and it appears that did work. A little bit hard to see because it's daylight out but all the needles seem to light up. I did like the look of LEDs but as long as she can see the gauges that's the important thing, so if this lights up at night as I suspect it will then problem solved in my book. For anyone reading this thread in the future if you're having the same issue I'd say just immediately go get some incandescent 194s.

Unfortunately I was not as skilled with my pry tools this time around, had to go through the vent and some of the trim got jankied up a little bit. Not that my fiance cares or we're ever planning on selling. It's going to make my teeth itch every time I drive the car though.

They can be fiddly to install LED's . On some i had to use Pliers to get them to sit in the corect position .
Sometimes that plastic bulb holding socket is also easily scewed in wrong .
Keep it in mind .
