Thanks again for all your input! If replacing the pan is as easy as stated (I think the long thread with the guy having issues getting a good gasket seal when replacing his pan sort of scared me) that'll certainly be the route I'm heading.

If you know the source and price of the replacement oil pan, I would go ahead and try one of the ca. $25 thread repair kits or helicoil. If you don’t like it, then replace the pan, but many people have great results with them.

Not brain science to re thread the thing and buy a larger sump bolt to fit it .Fill up with cheap oil and drain off to remove any swarf that can be in there .
