Guys , need a little help. I have a mint conditon 1984 500 sl, 53,000 origianl miles. I have too many cars. What do you think I could get for this car? It has hardtop, softtop, origianl radio, etc. everything works great. Garage stored and driven occasionally. Would trade for a 1995 to 1998 Porsche 993S and plus $. What do you think??

Have every peice of paper from the factory through california, and every oil change and every thing done to this car from the time it was built to now.

Forum has been experiencing an unusually high failure rate of late, even with text posts. Frank has not been able to duplicate on his end, so a fix has been elusive. You might link to your posted pics in teh sticky thread at the top of the 107 forum.

Why sell?

Beauty!

Get lots for it as I don't want to find out I paid way to much for mine, that is of yet not running.

Or sell yours to me for cheep (I will give it a good home) and use mine for parts to others.

This time of year, I would think that you could get 12-15K. For some reason people are afraid of the 500SL of that era. Personally I wouldn't sell it for less than 18k because of all the documentation and mileage and it could bring more than that. I have the same model and year but mine had much higher mileage when I bought it. It is a classic and perhaps you should keep it. Drive it. Obviously it hasn't been on the road that much. Much too nice a car to keep in the garage.

A couple of problems that need cleared up. First Mercedes-Benz did not sell a 500SL in the US in 1984. The correct 1984 model is 380SL. The 500SL was a Europe only car. If it is a Euro-spec car then why does it have US bumpers? The 5 MPH bumpers were not required for federalisation.

Either you have the wrong year or the wrong model desination.

Nice looking roadster though(Mine's the exact same color)![:D]

All the paperwork which is about 2" thick says it is a 1984 500SL. It was brought through cistoms in California and the conversion was done there. I guess the bumper was changed??? I have the paperwokd on everything that was done to this car from inception to now.

Some importers installed US bumpers anyway. Conversely, I have now seen a few US cars with Euro bumpers retrofitted.

Where did you get the fender trim? I've been trying to get some that only goes down to the side molding but haven't seen any until your car.

Please let me know!

You can find these on eBay - but IMHO, these are out of style and tend to hold in dirt and moisture.

DC you seem to know a lot of trivia. Could you help me. I have a 1973 450SLC AMG. Some one said that the AMG on the back was wrong for that year. But I checked into it and the orginal owner said it was on the car when he imported it to the US in 1974. It looks like ////AMG that is everywhere.
pic on my thread "Classic amg help" What is your theory of it?
