My boyfriend and I have the opportunity to buy an '83 240D for $150.
The car isn't running, we're told thats because she needs a new freeze plug.
He's wondering if it's worth it.
Are we nuts if we don't get it?

Plenty of inexpensive parts online and in salvage yards. Expect to spend some weekends getting service intervals up to date. It is great simple DIY car. I would be worried if it has frozen and cracked
the head or block.

Even good engines are cheap in pick and pulls. The 240D engine is easy to get in and out.

If this is going to be your first. You might try and get a running driving example. Often you can get one under $1000 and a clean one for $1500 to $2500.

I have turned down some inexpensive Mercedes at good prices because of this. But have more then I can drive now anyway.
