For W140 S320, the ambient temperature display sensor B14 is shown located beneath the left side front bumper, under the light. Cable shown via connector X24 in F1 fusebox at the bulkhead. (W140 S300 not seen)

Regarding ambient temperature sensor; the original will cost no less then USD 100, you can use a W220 sensor shown in the picture as an alternative and it will not cost you more than USD 15.

Its not quick as a plug and play and yes you need around 15-20 Minutes for reconnecting the wires, some soldering but I think it would be worth it.

Just a suggestion:)

in alldatadiy.com it stays that wrong outside temperature which is shown in the instrument cluster is a consequence of a mistake in the cluster itself ... so do not be disappointed if the situation will be the same after sensor replacement.

the data is for my car ... I assume it is for all w140 .. but who knows. they also do not specify which part of the cluster causes the problem: the temperature module with the display itself or some another part of cluster.

True - it can be more complicated, according to the WIS.

"The outside temperature indicator in the Instrument cluster requires the following to display the temperature reading:

a) outside temperature
b) speed signal
c) engine operating time
d) coolant temperature (as of 09/95)" Before that date, the criteria is even more complex!

vmedina - apologies for my comment in post 2. I have found data for S300 turbodiesel with engine W140035*. Location of the sensor is as described above.
