You might not need to replace the chain, just the timing chain tensioner. MB issued an upgraded tensioner and you should have your service folks check if you have the update.

I had my car repainted a beautiful seafoam green and when it was in a mercedes(not corporate just a specialest) paint shop they said that it was the timing chain that makes that rattle. I'm going to get it changed as they have no clearance engines thus if it goes your engine is poo poo. Any info on this?
