Just went to the local DMV office to renew the plates for my 560.
Parked outside was an early 60's Ferrari 250 GTO roadster. Last year a hardtop version of this car sold for US$28 million.
Alas, the guy with the car was surly and uncommunicative, a rare trait in old-car owners, so I have no idea what it is doing here. When I remarked I had never seen it around before, he snarled:"Of course not. There are only six of them in the world." Take that, peasant.
I wanted to tell Mr. Personality there is no point in having a car you don't use, but I bit my tongue.
No sour grapes here, but it is a bit of a styling mishmash, supposedly formed bit by bit in the wind tunnel. All odd nostrils up front, and a Kamback tail in the rear. Reminds me of a kit car.

It's great to see something unusual like that when you least expect it. The owner, on the other hand, can take a flying f#@k at a rolling donut.

Maybe he was a servant, sent to the DMV to do the beckoning of his master.

OR maybe he was just an asshole.

Come back lines:

Oh, It's a kit car.
What a waste of money.
Did you ever race that thing.

Is that a pic you took of the car or ru just jerking our chains?

Other comebacks: IS that an LT6 or an LS1 under the bonnet?

That's a Google pic, of a hardtop.
As far as I know, there is nobody here with that kind of money. It had no plates but it had a plastic plate envelope on the back, the sort dealers use for test drives. What was it doing at a small-town license office?

It may well have been real, but there are a few replicas of GTO's around, and a lot of them look the business.

I wonder if we'll ever find out? Surely if there is only 6 in the world it can't be that hard to find out where they all are?

Who knows?
Who cares?
It was just a good story because I've never seen a $28 million car before.
Real, or replica, I wasn't impressed.

There is only one 1986 600SL. And I will sell it for the bargain price of $27 million.

Go for it, Nobby - the kids can have crooked teeth and pay their own way to college - that's what student loans are for. And then, teach them the benefits of eloping.

Where do we line up?
Well anyone one this forum gets it at a pre advertised exclusive sale price of only $20,000,000. And I will even throw in delivery and floor mats at no charge.

And I do believe it will out run a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.
