My friends got in my car and told me the rear vents didn't work. No air. So yesterday I looked into it, and found that the cable under the arm rest had come off the little rail connector. I can't get move it though once it's on the rail. So I used some pliers to manually move the cable heading towards the front the car, and it was EXTREMELY stiff and I hear a loud "POOF" everytime I actuate it. Seems something's crispy and seized in there. Won't connect the cable back on because someone's going to break off the rear vent valve plastic.

For now I left it in the open position because air is better than no air and they can put their foot or something in front of it to block off air. Is there a way to get to the flaps and grease them or something?

In order to get to the forward part of the cable to find out why it's binding, you'll need to remove the console wood and likely the whole console. Things are really packed in there with lots of potential places for pinching of the cable. You might get some access by pulling the driver's side carpet from under the edge of the console, forward of the seat. The cable is likely pinched, and you'll need to find out where by pulling and tugging on it along it's length.
