BenzWorld Forum Members--give me your honest opinion on this. Should I buy a Colgan Nose Bra for my 500SL or is this only for people with Corvettes and such (i.e. too tacky)? Please forgive me for being so clueless--bear in mind I was driving (if you can even call it driving . . . ) a Range Rover this time last month, so I am really just learning.

And BTW, please don't even think of making any bra/braless jokes because that really would not be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Colgan Nose Bra

Some thoughts:

You can get pre-cut 3M clear film that forms an invisible shield if you are looking to protect the paint.

A Colgan Bra is fine in my opinion for a long drive on the freeway to protect the paint, but leaving it on regularly can cause more problems than it solves. Grit gets underneath the bra and rubs against the paint. Not to mention damage than can occur where the bra attaches to the car.

Also, if you get caught in the rain you shouldn't let it dry off while on the car...it can cloud the wax which is a pain to rub out.

As far as the looks are concerned, I think that while it is on you have more of a sports-car look...which detracts from the luxurious appearance. That is either good or bad depending upon your opinion.

All a matter of personal preference.

I have had bras in the past, but they ended up spending most of their lives in the trunk.

No....I can't stand those things. There are compaines that make thin stick on mats in the same colour as your car...Very hard to see from a few feet away..impossible when driving down the road.

Ivory:
Every time I scrub bugs off the nose of my car, or touch up chipped paint, I consider the same question. If you lived in an environment with a great deal of particulate matter, drove on unpaved roads, etc. I'd say it's not a bad idea.
But as beautiful as your car looks, and given the advisory that the bra can rub on the finish or trap moisture that can stain the finish - - I'd say pass.
I'm simply trying to maintain a good base of wax on the car to keep the paint as resiliant as possible.
Regards-

No sir. I think you nailed it when you said "tacky".

Tacky is the perfect way to describe how that would (and in my opinion almost always does regardless of the car) look on your beautiful ride.

If you have rock chips on your front end or are afraid of getting them I would recommend speaking with your local MB dealer. That's what I did about a month ago and they put me in touch with a mobil paint repair specialist that they use on their high end cars.

He fixed my rock chips and made my front end look almost new in about 2 hours for less than 200 bucks. The results went beyond my best expectations. I would rather deal with him every couple of years than cover up my front end.

Let me know if you need more info about this option.
