Just when you think you have heard it all, New York City is importing a fleet of British Taxicabs! The engine of choice? A Diesel of Course! The reason: longevity, ease of maintenance, and a tight turning radius. I wonder if they would have considered a 240 D fleet?[:D]It seems the Mercury and Ford cabs barely make it 100,000 miles.[:0]Whatever happened to Checker?

I'm sure if the 240D was still being produced it may have been considered. The London Taxis are well known for their longevity. I've even heard stories that the run them 24hrs a day without ever shutting them down.
It's no surprise that the Fords didn't make it past 100K.
Checkers were powered by the Chevy small block V8 which if properly maintained, can make it beyond 300K miles.
