The only way to keep an original black paint job that good is to take care of it's whole life. Looks like a real good one - congrats.

Plus a ton of elbow grease. The car was from a "non-car" guy. Very nice fellow, but the car spent the better part of it's life going through automatic car washes. It took me awhile, but the paint looks terrific now.

Thanks for the compliment. I was crazy for buying a black car and living in Florida. But then again, I was crazy when I bought them living in the burbs of Dallas.

Very nice. That looks like rims from newer E series. Is 400e a lot faster than your 92 300e?

I picked this one up in Jan. from a one owner home in PA. 93 Black on black and just rolled over 130K on the way back from a quick trip to NW North Carolina. Fantastic car!
CONGRATS, it's gorgeous!!

Looks great, Jayare. Black cars in TX and FL? You *are* nuts unless you reserve them for night, driving, LOL.
Were those wheels on it when you picked it up? They don't do much for me; they look too small, somehow. A set of 17s would look great, I think.
Bring it back to PA if you get tired of it and I'll take it off your hands!

Thanks Guys. The wheels are off a late model C Class and are 16's. I had them in the garage, so I thought I'd give them a try. I just haven't made my mind up on what to do with the wheels. OEM are a bit nicked up, but have brand new rubber on them. It is hard for me to dispose of a perfect set of tires. I'll probably put them back on and use the time required to run down the tread to make my decision on their replacement.

Wiki.... Is the 400E faster than my 300E or 300CE? You bet.... My CE is a very nice car and certainly not a slug. The coupes just drive differently than the sedans. It has about 50 fewer hp. but is 2" lower (roof line) and 4" shorter in length and wheel base. The 300E is just a project car I picked up because I could. I have probably put less than 100 miles on it in the last severa months. It's just something to play around with and will not be with me much longer.

The 400E's/E420's just hammer down the road. They are, IMO, about 75 -80% of a 500E for about 1/3rd the price or less. Fantastic cars

Aug...... I'll keep your kind offer in mind.

Jayare, I have been searching for a daily driver for awhile and am now making a deal on a 400E. I was looking at 560 SEL's, but have had horrible luck in finding a decent one for sale. I was also looking at bmw 740's, but am scared of maintenance issues and after test driving them, I was not impressed with the quality of the interrior. The car is fun to drive, but I just did not feel it was nowhere near the quality of the MB's. So, I saw that 400E's, for some odd reason, are available at reasonable prices. I think I have found the right one and am working out the details. I have not driven it, but am planning to do the inspect and drive next week. I was just wondering if you could give more details on your thoughts about the car (size, comfort, power, handling etc). It also appears they get good gas mileage for a V8. If i buy it, I will post the pics. Thanks.

Jayare, I have contracted to buy the 400E that I was telling you about (original owner, service records, etc) and will most likely be traveling to Tampa to get the car. If you are in the area when I fly in, let me know and we can hook up. One of my best friends from college lives in St. Pete so I have a place to stay overnight. You can reach me at 703-747-0750.
