Anyone know if there's after market fin or tried painting the existing to body colour? Need to remove? Any pics?

It is painted on the W212 and 221, I guess a bit of cost savings (logistics included). Does not bother me much but I agree it would be nicer with correct colour.

My wife and I have an '09 C300 Sport 4matic (Iridium Silver) and the fin matches the color of the car. Almost all of the other C300's on the road seem to have a black fin. Is there an obvious reason for this?

My wife's W204 is a 2009 (build date late February) also Iridium silver (and a 4Matic, although a diesel) and I'm pretty sure the antenna was black.

I should have a look if they put the matched colour antenna on C300 and bigger models.

no and no.

it's MB's way of saving cost. you can have a bodyshop paint it for you.

Iridium has silver fins, other colors have black fins.

My 2008 c300 sport is white and the fin is black. I was at the dealer today, getting my free car wash, when I was leaving i noticed a white new 2009 E350 with a white fin. Not that it bothers me a lot but I think I may check with parts or service to see if they can get the fin in white for me. Hopefully it is just a cover that can replace the existing.

Be careful with re-painting your antenna. Certain paints will reduce the signal level getting to the internal antenna and give you very bad or almost no reception.

I heard it's a pain to remove the fin.

BTW, the Pano roof fin is different from the non Pano fin. Pano roof fin has the glossy black paint, and slightly bigger in size.

That's a lot of info. Thanks, guys! Yes, the MB bodyshop guy told me it might affect signal reception. Also, if painting it, there is a rubber (bottom part)ring that cannot be painted.
C$50 to do it on the car without removing.....(quoted by non-MB shop)

you asked if it was an eyesore in the previous post and I answered it with a short answer. If you want a long version then the answer is "no, the black antenna is not an eyesore compare to the chrome tail light trim" based on that picture.

if you don't like other's opinion then don't post.
