Hello, I am buying a new tensioner and tensioner shock. I have read some bad things about certain brands. Autohaus only lists the URO tensioner and Stabilus shock. I heard URO is no good. What about the Stabilus shock? Is this ok? I also checked Partsgeek and they have the Gates, Dayco, Bilstein, and Four Seasons tensioner and the Sachs shock. Any input on these brands?

In general I avoid URO parts but in this case you may be OK.

This belt tensioner is the steel spring kind and I would guess is much simpler to manufacture and less likely to be quality compromised.

If you needed the older style rubber bushing tensioner, OEM was the way to go, though they are quite expensive.

The Stabilus shock is pretty much considered OEM.

Rock auto has several different brands, non of which I recognize as OEM. They do show that AC Delco makes one, which is probably better than most, but hard to say seems how this is out of their make. Gates also makes one. For what its worth, I've run the Uro for a while and not noticed any issues, but then again I dont drive mine alot of miles.
