Changed the tank strainer today. Wasn't as difficult as I'd imagined and didn't have to go in for one of those specialist tank strainer sockets. Just cut the fuel line running into the tank strainer and torqued it down with a deep 19mm socket as much as I could so when I backed it off, they both came out.

Looks like I'm going to have to pull the tank though. Did a little feeling around up in there, lots of spongy gooey sediment. Wouldn't be surprised if the new filters almost as bad already. :/

Oh yeah, that will be back. I had to pull and clean my tank 5 years ago. I think I got 20 HP back after that! I now mix in a little biocide with my fuel. Hopefully that will keep things from getting bad again. My fuel gauge sending unit was also acting up, but cleaning everything out fixed that, too.

Use Liqui Moly SDA with every fill up and you'll never have to deal with algae ever again. And nor will you have to do a diesel purge or clean the intake manifold every again.

Yes, it costs a few bucks but well worth it.
