TODAY, i picked up the glass for a bullet proof experiment on W140 glass...ya know, for all dem craigslist and ebay losers. time to have some fun.

first....lets get this out of the way!

********************DISCLAIMER!!!************************
AT NO TIME, EVER, SHOULD THIS EXPERIMENT REGARDLESS OF ITS FINDINGS SHOULD EVER BE CONSIDERED A CONFIRMATION OF WHAT THE WINDOWS ARE CAPABLE OF! DO NOT USE THIS EXPERIMENT TO EXPERIMENT YOUR OWN LIFE!!! YOU ARE TO ASSUME YOUR WINDOWS WILL SHATTER IMMEDIATELY UPON IMPACT OF ANY FORM OF OBJECT NOT JUST A BULLET...THIS INCLUDES TIRE IRONS, KNIVES, SWORDS, BANANNAS, PENS, TIRES, CONDOMS, ETC. THIS EXPERIMENT IS 100% FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF YOU TOO CHOOSE TO CONDUCT THIS EXPERIMENT, TAKE ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AT ALL TIMES, SUCH AS HANDS, EYES, BODY, FACE PROTECTION AS NEEDED!! YOU ARE RESPONSIBILE FOR THE SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND OTHERS!

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE BASICS OF GUN SAFETY!

http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp <<<<<<<<<<< THIS GUIDE IS TO ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED!!!!

now that i made myself clear...lets move on to the fun shall we!

Ok. Here are the goods.

One passenger front glass. One driver rear glass, short wheel base and the small window as well. Each main window was $27, and little glass was $16.

At the yard a Jack stand shattered the first pane on one hit (the little rear window triangle glass) but took 3 more to break thru just the first pane, with overall light force (I didn't have glasses or gloves on so I was on side of caution)

I will update the Q/A as suggestions come in.

here for some Q and A!

Q: What is tacks experiment?
A: to see how bullet proof the w140 glass is.

Q: what should we expect?
A: one must assume full penetration at all times.

Q: why are you doing this tack?
A: because I'm bored, and curious.

Q: what car did this come off of?
A: 1994 S320, with window tint and spray paint overspray on the inside.

Q: were the windows properly removed?
A: yes. not one ounce of force was used to remove the windows.

Q: was the car damaged.
A: front end may have been, as the passenger airbag was displayed. But the drivers was not so considering the amount of picked parts of the front end I am unable to be sure.

Q: are there any imperfections on the glass?
A: nothing more than wear and tear from what I can tell.

Q: what bullets from what kind of gun are you using?
A: 9mm FMJ: Beretta NANO
SW40 FMJ: Walther PPS,
12G shot gun buckshot: Remington 870.

Q: how will the windows be mounted?
A: mounted is unknown yet. i may make a wood brace for them, or just simply lean them against something. if anyone has ideas, chime in!

Q: how far away will you be shooting?
A: not sure yet, im thinking one window maybe 12-15 feet away, and the other 20 feet away.

Q: how are the windows tinted?
A: appears to be film. unknown kind but they are all dark not purpled, so im assuming the tint was fairly newer, or that good stuff. We will assume it was cheap garbage but fairly new considering the cosmetic condition of the car being poor...very poor. it does appear however to have been installed in a shop and not likely at home DIY style.

Q: do you have any untinted windows to experment with?
A: no, unfortunately the pick a part only had one W140, one that someone spray painted black inside and out...including the leather.

Q: when is the experiement:
A: currently, its set for this coming saturday, Oct 13th but this is subject to change. regardless of any changes, we are aiming for completion before the end of October.

Q: will you use anything for showing penetration past the glass?
A: yes, some sort of oversized large fruit such as a waddamellon or a punkin. (via Actros617 advice)

Be sure you put a pumkin, watermelon, water ballon or what ever, behind the glass and then shoot it!

I'm hoping to put a video of it up as well. I may have to make a stand for my phone and put it near the windows somehow. I'd love to see this video!!

You have to start off with a .22. That's the only round I wouldn't doubt, too much, it could stop. And you should change the buckshot to bird shot... you know the buckshot is just going to destroy it. The bird shot probably will too, but it'll give it a better chance. Looking forward to the results.

This would've changed everything if Biggie smalls was in his W140 (which he had) and Tupac was in his W140 (which he also owned). -If it works out... as I remember the guns weren't very powerful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1X3sJo2W8g theres a better vid but I can't find it
The E38 that Tupac was riding was shot on the doors, not windows, so no, he still would've died.

I know you're just joking but I'm just pointing out :p

Would be interesting to see.

The previous owner of my car told me his wife once threw a brick at the driver window to try and crack the glass since the keys were in there (kid was locked inside house crying). Anyways, all the brick left was 3 marks on my driver window, glass didn't crack.

Told my friends about it, he said he wanted to throw a spark plug through, and if it didn't go through, he would buy me a brand new window. If it did go through, I would cover the cost. I didn't have the confidence to take that bet XD

I mentioned this in the other thread; I went through an attempted carjacking in my previous 140, with one of the would-be carjackers hitting my driver side window hard with a crowbar. The outer pane shattered but he didn't break through it, and the inner pane was fine. As I sped away, another guy threw a brick at the car and hit my rear windshield and it left a small crack, a little bigger than a road star.

The components on these cars are very tough, but bullets carry a LOT of energy and I'd be shocked if the standard window could stop a .40 or 9mm. Maybe a .22 from fifteen yards or so.

thats some sick sh!t. he tackleberry i am going to bother you about how you safely removed the glass, because i need two windows :) lol
Remove door panel. Remove trim around windows. Remove the hex bolts that line up with strategically placed holes in the door frame. Remove bolts and lower down, tilt to a side pull up remove glass out of door.

Rears are similar but each screw needs to be removed. Then window will fall. Then you see a holding thing on a central vertical rail and use a screw driver and some common sense to release it. Remove window in similar manner.

As for the cost, I was already going to the range. I already spent $220 on ammo for range day.
the windows just happened to be extra fun. $27.50x2 and $16x1 plus tax. I spent $103 today but also got 4 coil packs for m62 bmw motor as spares.
