Hi, I have an euro W123 300D and I want to replace the clock in the instrument panel with tachometer (RPM meter). Is that possible? I have seen that all US W123 300D Turbo have tachometer, so I am going to buy RPM meter from US model. But I don’t know where I have to connect the signal wire. To alternator or...? Actually where the tachometer in US models take the information about engine RPM from?

You will need some wire connection for those. There is two types i think. There is one kind you have a sensor unit connected to the flywheel. the other one just pops in the plug thingy in the engine bay area. I'll try to find a pic... I'm sure some of the board members know the exact process how to do it....

There is a VDO unit that is timed to the alternator signal but I don't know anyone who has actually tried it and been successful with the installation or accuracy.
