Hello,

I have a 1985 500SEL (grey market from Germany). My last dashboard light went out the other day, so I removed the radio, wood panels, etc. and replaced all 5 bulbs. All the lights for the climate controls, vent indicators, and sunroof/rear defroster/overhead light are working now, but the switches for the windows and audio fade are not lighting up.

I believe the lights are incorporated into the switches, as I did not see any fiber optic cables running to them. Some of them worked before I started removing panels, but now they are all out. Is there a way to replace the light without the switch? Or could there be a blown fuse?

Those lights are incorporated into the switches. Are the switches working?

The fiber optic lights are in the center of the dashboard. I want to say the automatic transmission shifter box was fiber optic in the Gen I. In Gen II, it has its own, replaceable bulb. And there's an extra fiber optic cable from the spider.

Thank you, yes all of the switches are working. There was a bunch of gunk around them, so I cleaned the connections and they all light up now.

You were right, Gen 1 does have a fiberoptic cable running from the light spider in the dash to the shifter box.
