Swapping a comand unit...

Hi my comand unit is out dated meaning they don't have any upgrades for it or simply can't be upgraded as per what the dealer told me at MB. My phone nor my navigation works which is odd because the unit has the buttons for it but don't seem to work or have any setup for it. I was wondering if it's possible to swap out a comand unit from a 2006 ML350 for a 2008 or 2007 model?

If your looking to do that check out the multiple threads about AVIN USA's command unit. It runs an android OS and it has all of the features that you are looking for. Also its cheaper than retrofitting a NTG 2.5 or higher command unit on your vehicle. Tommy will explain everything for you if you have any questions.
You'll have to make a few tweaks if you buy the AVIN unit, but its well worth the time to do so.
I love mine. Very easy to install and easily integrates with your car. If you have the Harmon Kardon system you will have to get the most adapter, but they are giving that away for free now. It used to be 100.00 extra. They also make adapters so you can use your factory back up camera, Bluetooth microphone, and GPS antenna. Everything works great. My Bluetooth microphone must has come unplugged as it stopped working after I installed my back up camera. I will have to check the harness when I pop out the head unit again. Tommy keeps pretty odd hours so he is there pretty much all the time to help you out via email or phone. I hope this helps you make up your mind.
Everything went pretty smooth. The back up camera is a bit tricky as far as fishing the wires up to the front of the vehicle. The back up camera install will require you to install a relay in your car since the reverse lights don't provide a constant 12V when the car is running. The wiring is the hardest part for the camera. If you use the adapters that they have available for your Bluetooth microphone and GPS antenna that makes installation a lot easier. If you have concerns along the way Tommy will help you out. Depending on which navigation you are going to plan to use you may want a mobile hotspot for your car. I purchased the preloaded SD card with the HERE navigation maps preloaded and found that you can't upgrade to a newer version because it is a specific version that they had made for AVIN's custom android OS. I installed a mobile hotspot so I could just use google maps in real time. It works pretty good for me so far.
The microphone adapter works great. It plugs right into the harness no problems. The most is included free with your order, you will just have to select it when you order it. Also don't forget about the $100.00 off coupon code listed on the website for benzworld members.
I've had no issues with AM/FM even though I rarely use them. I just stream everything through Bluetooth.
