Noticed an oil leak from oil sending unit while changing the lower control arms. Pulled oil unit out of parts car a 1988 300e. The 300e oil unit is shorter in length than original 260e oil unit. Does anyone know if these are interchangeable, bolt pattern is same for both.

As far as I know, they're interchangeable, BUT the 300E sender is shorter because it requires more oil (amount of oil you put in with every oil change). How much more? I don't know. I just know that's why it's shorter.

You'll wonder why some W124's have different colored dipsticks than others, well, that tells the techs at MB how much oil should be put into an engine. Pretty neat idea, isn't it?

Screw it in. There shouldn't be any problem at all.
