I have the same problem, its probably some dirt gotten into the sunroof whilst it was open. Haven't cleaned mine yet but they tell me that's what it is.
Sunroof
Electric gremlins keep attacking my 2002 320 CLK Coupe. When I close the sunroof, it gets to about an inch away from closing, then powers back (it's the safety feature of not allowing the roof to close if there is an obstruction). It's been to the garage twice to have the control module "reset" but still has the problem. Anyone had the same problem and had it permanently fixed?

Spot on. With the sunroof open, ran a cotton bud along the sunroof rails. No obvious dirt, but problem solved.
I had the same problem with my 2004 and they upgraded the system software and no more problems.
