Never had a problem before, I was opening it and about half way I hear a pop and the roof stops moving. I helped it shut all the way and then tilted it up it opens on tilt but it will not close with the switch.

The motor sounds good and strong the electrics are all okay, but now it just sort of 'detached' from the moving mechanism so I'm guessing its off track.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

i pretty sure youre guide shims have snaped in two. you will have to remove the sunroof with all the work that requires and replace the broken parts. this is a mech job if you want a headache free job done to have it fixed. the person doing it should have done this before and know what the hell they are doing.

very tipical problem for the 126

Marko,
Like they say about computer backups - there are two kinds of people, those who have already lost data and those about to.

The early 126s have weak sunroof parts and will break eventually. There was an upgrade around 1990 (?) that put in stronger parts under there and I understand that the kit is around $600 USD, plus installation. I fixed the sunroof on my '87 560SEC with metal inserts and lots of JB Weld epoxy, but I really need to put in the upgrade.
