Hey all,
Are all sliding roof suppose to tilt also? I see lots of pictures of 201's with the moonroof tilted up...are they suppose to all do that or is that an option. As far as I can tell my 87 only slides back. Just curious..

yes, the roof should be able to tilt as well...
where is the switch located ? Otherwise, the manual simply should tell you what to do.
In my 93 MB190 you simply push the switch upwards.

It all depends if your '87 was built in the first part of the year or later, since it was a mid-year modification. You can check the build date on the data card on the driver's door jamb.

Mine was built 11/86, so I am guessing mine does not have the option??

Nope. If you had the tilt/sliding sunroof, the switch would be adjacent to the front dome light (in the roof). The regular sliding sunroof switch is dead center on the dash, next to the antenna and rear window switches.

I know about the manual operation of the sunroof, and the driver is part of the OEM toolkit . . . I was just wondering what it had to do with this thread.

The "socket" is part of the tool kit, but a metric (17mm?) will work.

tried it and it doesnt seem to work...I pressed the sunroof button and I can hear the motor push it back and forth but I think the sunroof derailed or something..any suggestions on getting it back on the track or should I take it in?

The sliding mechanism is pretty simple, so I doubt that the panel has "derailed." It's more likely the braided drive cable has come off or broken. Fixing that will call for removing the headliner . . . not my favorite job.
