I have a 2005 E320 CDI. Car was sitting for 4 years before I bought it and the sunroof is completely stuck closed (although the car thinks it is open). I changed the fuse and did the reset and still does not work. One can hear the motor trying but something inside is no bueno. Maybe needs lubrication or a gear in the motor is shot. How many hours of labor is involved in swapping out the old motor for a different one? I have only seen tutorials that refer to the panoramic roof.

Just a guess, but I would think it's fairly labor intensive. My inclination would be to live with it not working.

Probably not a lot of time or effort to change the motor but consider cleaning and lubricating the sunroof slides.

Have you tried to crank the sunroof manually?

BTW have you taken it in to the dealer for the sunroof glass recall? If not, do so. They could give you a sense of what's going on. The glass on one of mine separated. The sunroof had been working only marginally. When I got it back it worked perfectly and I didn't pay a dime!

Now that is a great idea!

Imagine that the motor for the conventional sunroof is in the same position as the panoramic one. Does not look that bad. Guessing my indie would charge me about 2 hours to do it.

Hand cranking the sunroof to lube the slides is a good idea. I will have to try that after parking the vehicle in covered parking.
