An untold rule says bad roads fit the oil filled ones, good roads are friends to gas filled struts...

I have KYB's and they were a upgrade compared to the OEM's and are not expensive. You can go on e-bay and pick up struts and shocks for about $230.00 including shipping. I had KYB's on my Jetta and were a good feel.

Check link: eBay Motors: KYB GR-2 STRUTS SHOCKS MERCEDES BENZ 190E 2.3 2.6 W201 (item 160104372498 end time Apr-17-07 17:29:11 PDT)
My '86 190E is getting pretty bouncy. What would more likely cause that problem, the struts/shocks, or the springs? Is there anyway to check on my car w/out lifting it or bringing it somewhere?

i think i need to replace my shocks too. i was actually gonna post the same question, but looked first. On my car when i turn, i always feel like the car's gonna flip over unless i slow down to around 15 mph. is that normal? or is it because my springs and struts are bad? i'm still quite the rookie when it comes to mechanical stuff on cars

Good struts! If its Sachs SPORT, then its the same ones used on the 16v I believe.

I'm starting with the restoration of my car... first up, is the suspension.

My car originally had AMG shocks and springs all around. Then the shocks were replaced with Koni Yellow shocks. Then the rears were replaced by the previous owner for Monroe's. The front Koni Yellows are SHOT and need replacement.

In the next 2 weeks or so, I will be recieving brand new... period AMG shocks, same as originals that came on the car when it left the sales lot in Affalterbach. Will post pics once everything is in order... getting siked!:D

you my friend, rule

Snibble,
Im guessing the AMG shocks are alot stiffer then normal 190 shocks. and how much do they go for anyway. i want to give my car a really stiff ride but cant really find a cup kit or coilover system that have then for my car.

Yes, I assume they're stiffer than normal 190 shocks. They are made by Bilsteins. I don't know how they compare to say Bilstein HD's.. but the AMG's should have different settings would be my guess. I lucked out in finding the shocks through a friend, as a result, I got a good price(still expensive) as well. I don't know what these typically sell for as they are very rare to find, even used. I paid more than wha t you'd expect to for normal shocks, but I'm not restoring a normal 190E either.
